October's been a busy month, and I've been away from the Substack for a little while. I'll be back with more writing in November. But in the meantime, here is a roundup of some of my recent and upcoming activity.
My book with Miranda Fleischer, Universal Basic Income: What Everyone Needs to Know, came out on October 4th. You can consume it in paperback, e-book, or audiobook format. And if you want an overview, you can check out the interview that Miranda and I did with the Avid Reader Show.
Reviews continue to come in for The Individualists: Radicals, Reactionaries, and the Struggle for the Soul of Libertarianism. Check out Janet Bufton at The Hub, Alex Salter at the Russell Kirk Center, Tal Fortgang at Commentary, and Rachel Ferguson at the Acton Institute.
I also discussed The Individualists with Peter Glen for C-SPAN’s Book TV. For a book geek like me, this was a very big and fun moment!
Javier Milei is going into a run-off next month for the presidency of Argentina. Milei describes himself as a libertarian “anarcho-capitalist.” But given the open-ended nature of key libertarian concepts, that might not wind up meaning what you think (or hope) it means. I discuss Milei’s libertarian populism at Project Syndicate.
I’ll be in New Orleans on November 3rd for the seventh annual meeting of the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Society, talking about the ethics of exclusionary zoning with Brian Kogelmann and Dan Shahar.
And on November 4th, I’ll be back at San Diego for a talk at the Sphere Education Initiative, on the ethics and economics of the Universal Basic Income.
